Born in 1987 in Russia, Dmitry Zagumennikov is a classical guitarist whose playing combines brilliant technique, delicate control of tone and dynamics, and profound interpretive depth. His extensive repertoire spans music from the Renaissance to contemporary works, reflecting a wide range of styles and artistic expression.

 

Beginning his musical studies at the age of eleven with his first teacher and neighbor, Vadim Belov, Dmitry also learned piano at a music school. In 2002, he moved to Moscow to pursue formal training at the Alfred Schnittke College of Music and later at the Gnesin State Academy of Music under Nikolay Komolyatov, graduating in 2011. From 2012 to 2015, Zagumennikov continued his education at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz, Austria, with Martin Mysliveček. During this period, he won numerous awards at international competitions in France, Germany, Italy, Greece, Russia, and Ukraine. Later, he completed his master’s degree with excellence at the world-renowned Hanns Eisler University of Music in Berlin under Daniel Göritz.

 

Since 2014, Dmitry has been living in Berlin, dedicating himself to performing and teaching classical guitar. His musical activity includes solo recitals, chamber music projects, and concerts with orchestras.

 

Mr. Zagumennikov has recorded three solo albums, which have been warmly received by the press and critics in Germany. His guitar arrangements of works by Erik Satie are published by Edition Margaux (Germany). In 2024, his chamber-music arrangement of Bizet’s Carmen was performed with great success by the Uckeroper in Germany and Poland.

 

In addition to his musical career, Dmitry directed and produced in 2023 the short documentary Don Andrés: el guitarrero, a film about the Spanish guitar maker Andrés D. Marvi. The film received several awards at international film festivals.

 

He speaks English, German, Spanish, and Russian.
